The Castle #1

A picture taken circa 1930. This was one of the main roads through the old Meadows, Wilford Road, which ran from almost the city centre to the river Trent and Wilford Toll Bridge. In the distance, behind the trolley bus, can just be seen the dome of the Council House, reminiscent of St Pauls in London, where my offices , and the Brian Clough statue are. On the right was my local pub, The Castle, and the road to the right was Waterway Street West, where I was brought up, and lived until I was 17. To the left were marshalling yards, cattle pens, locomotive engine sheds and workshops, where I spent many happy hours trainspotting and playing. And, no that isn't me in the foreground; I'm not quite that old.
