The Castle #2

Here is a much better picture of the Castle pub and the top of Waterway Street. It was my intention to put together a pictorial of all of the pubs of the old Meadows, of which there were quite a few. Almost every corner of every major road or street had a pub on it; oh the halcyon days. I did put together a power point presentation of a walk down Waterway Street, which was one of the longest streets in the Meadows, showing what sights the photographers had taken pictures of, and especially the pubs, Castle, Clifton Grove, Star and Griffin. Four pubs on one street alone, so it could be seen that given the size of the Meadows there are quite a few pubs to remember, and pictures to collect.

  1. Thanks for the comment today, Philip. A pleasant surprise...and hey, I never said I was unique, but then I am or so I would like to think I am.
I am liking the way you are capturing history - and even better, it is pub history. The stories those pubs hold inside.

  2. Although this was strictly speaking my local, I was too young to actually go in, and may have only ever gone in once or twice. It was reputed not to be a very pleasant establishment; what used to be called a 'knocking-shop', for finding ladies of the night....
